Sophomore starting pitcher Mantas Kempinas, newly promoted from JV, threw four shutout innings allowing four hits and striking out four. Freshman Victor Kamrowski, also newly promoted, came in to close the door, going one inning. The outcome was never really in doubt, as the Peglegs scored in every inning. Stuy had seven hits in the game, including two by catcher Adam Lucey and a triple by shortstop Sam Levine. Their bats were aided by seven Francis Lewis errors, two passed balls and two wild pitches. In the playoffs, scheduled to start in ten days or so, the Peglegs can’t count on other teams’ mistakes. Their bats seem to be heating up at the right time, however, and their pitching has been strong all season. Things got interesting late as Francis Lewis loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with one out, looking to avoid a mercy and extend the game, but Kamrowski composed himself and retired the last two batters to end the game. Stuy improved their record to 12-2 and are battling Beacon (10-1) for first place in the division.
